Lakers’ Dwight Howard in the 2020 Slam Dunk Contest at Chicago All Star Weekend?
NBA All-Star weekend is in Chicago this year. Howard won the 2008 Slam Dunk Contest in New Orleans:
Howard is taking his second chance with the Lakers very seriously. Through the first eight games of the season, Howard hasn’t been a distraction — on or off the court — and is playing high-level defense.
No longer a superstar in the league, Howard is coming off the bench for the Lakers and playing his role to a t. Howard is averaging 6.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks for the Lakers in 20.9 minutes per game. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year is shooting 76.7 percent from the field.
With Howard, Anthony Davis and JaVale McGee anchoring the paint for LA, the Lakers are primed to have one of the best defenses in the NBA. LA is 7-1 on the season.
Howard, who is an eight-time All-Star, won’t play in an All-Star game again, so the Dunk Contest is the closest thing he will get to being back in the All-Star hoopla.
